Insurance
Many people really like that hobby very fast, but they forget about the danger which is included. Model planes are not toys! Even small and toy look a likes can do serious damage to yourself, other people or objects. Even a small pylonracer like the Voodoo looks quite nice and harmless, isn't it? But have you ever thinked about that this small prop is sharp as a knife and spinning with more then 30.000 rotations per minute? if you get with your finger inside that, there will be not much less a doctor could repair.
Also the T-Rex 500 ESP is only a model helicopter? Of course, but this model have an engine with 1.6kW (or 2.1 hp!) and blades made of carbon. One colleague was picked up by the ambulance because he crashed into his own elbow. A screw inside his elbow will remember him for a long time about that. As you can see, model flying is everything else then harmless, you can produce very big destruction and hurt people faster then you could see. So there are insurances that you don't need to pay that things out of your own pockets. if you want to go serious with that hobby, i only can request you to get such an insurance BEFORE you fly something that is really more then a toy. Please don't think that your private liability insurance is covering that things. if it is not explicity listed, it will not be covered.
Be on the safe side, and also in every club I know it is obvious to have an insurance, otherwise you aren't allowed to fly there. Get one before something happens, otherwise it will be too late! |
